With WordPress 5.3, there has been several updates in site health tools, which we are going to discuss below.
1. Site Health Grading Indicator Changes
With the release of site health grading percentage in WordPress 5.2, there has been some concerns on whether or not grading system as such should exist as that might create additional problems for people obsessed with scoring 100%. Taking these concerns into consideration, in WP 5.3 percentage grading has been removed and the Site Health tool now only show two simple states:
- Should be improved
- Good.
Also, to communicate clearly on Site Health checks on progress, status mentioning “Results are still loading..” is displayed along with the grading circle pulse animation.
2. Recovery email enhancements
Previous versions of WP already sends a recovery email to user for any failures but its hard for user to understand what’s going on and will be difficult to get help without enough information.
WordPress 5.3 comes to rescue such that the recovery email will now contain basic information that is useful in debugging a problem. By default email contains following informations:
- WordPress version
- PHP version
- Current theme and version
- The plugin name and version causing the issue
WP filter “recovery_email_debug_info” can be used by developers to add/modify debug information sent on recovery emails.
3. Filters for Completed Site Health Status Tests
A new filter “site_status_test_result” has been introduced which allows developers to filter the output of a Site Health test. The filter is available for both PHP and Javascript.
